This year our Middle Unit is comprised of two 3/4 classes. One of which is housed in the BER building, the other in a relatively new learning space in our Admin building.
Students are led towards independent learning and team work is a major focus. Students attend a two night, three day camp every year to develop these skills, as well as have fun.
The children love developing their teamwork and independent learning skills through weekly REACH sessions.
Children of this age love to be active so we do an hour of sport each week and PE at least three times a week.
We also do a local excursion to support themes being studied in the classroom, such as a day in Beechworth learning about local history.
Students are fortunate to share a Netbook with another child. Programs such as ‘Essential Assessment’ and ‘Literacy Planet’ are used to develop literacy and numeracy skills. Netbooks are a great way to research information, present work and develop editing skills. The children love learning to create presentations.
Daily homework tasks help establish independent work habits. Tasks are interesting and varied and relate to themes being studied in the class.
Each term we study a particular theme. This year we will study environmental science, earth and space and Australian geography.
