At Wangaratta Primary School we have a consistent approach in how we teach Numeracy. Numeracy Leaders support staff with resources, professional learning and planning documents. Numeracy Leaders work collaboratively with other Numeracy Leaders from Wangaratta Cluster schools to share current practice.
Students learn through differentiated tasks which are targeted to each individual student’s needs. Using data during planning allows teachers to engage and extend students in their learning. All students complete fluency tasks at the beginning of the Numeracy lesson to consolidate any prior learning and encourage self-correcting their work therefore developing their independence. Mini lessons relate to how students can use their Numeracy skills during real life situations. Whole class learning is conducted in a supportive and investigative manner with students working collaboratively.
All students are assessed on a Number Fluency Pathway. This pathway begins in the early years and continues through to grade six and beyond. Students have access to a variety of resources including many websites, ICT tools and many hands on materials.
